If you were wondering about the name of the blog, I guess I can give some distantly related explanation for its existence. (Just remember that curiosity killed the cat… but sometimes that’s what we wanted, isn’t it?)
Anyway, here are the top reasons for why I chose to go with Embassy Kid.
- We were called to be Christ’s ambassadors. 2 Corinthians 5:20 says, “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us…” And the word embassy generally means an office or body of ambassadors. (Plus it’s just a cool word in general.)
2. Christ calls us to be like children. Jesus told his disciples,
“…’Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.'” -Matthew 18:3 – 5
One thing I love about children is their innocence and unwavering faith (that and the fact that I can still play games with them without feeling stupid). True, kids can often act like brats… but then, it isn’t such a rare thing to see an adult be pretty bratty either. We humans like to think we’ve got it all together, though.
3. Kids whose parents are actually in any embassy often have to move around and live overseas. That makes them Third-Culture Kids, meaning they tend to blend different cultures to make their own unique “third culture.” Our family doesn’t work for the Embassy, but we’re still TCKs, so I thought, why not.
4. I basically still have the maturity of a seven-year-old, so I figured I might as well relate the title of my blog to that.
And that, in a nutshell, is my reason for the blog name.
Aren’t you glad you asked?
