Free Verse: A Dying World

A Dying World

Look at us

Shattered and broken

Hurt by the shards of a glass world

           Look at us

           Starving ourselves

           When we’re skin and bones

           But never thin enough

Look at us

Hurting ourselves

When we’re bleeding and cutting

But never redeemed

           We control what we can

           Because everything else feels wrong

But when the hopeless day is done

We’re in deeper than when we started

Look at us

Screaming at each other

As children starve to death

           Look at us

           Seeing only ourselves

           When there’s a world

           In such great need

We take hold of what we can

Because everything is fading

But when the hopeless day is done

There’s just one thing we’ve been needing

           Look at Him

           Broken and slaughtered

The perfect Lamb slain for our sin

Look to Him

The God of gods

When lasting hope is fleeting

Because we turned to all the wrong things

When He was all we needed.
